Healthcare professionals and their future patients would benefit if the basics of Lifestyle Medicine were incorporated into all professional  training programs. Formal training and personal experience of  evidence-based lifestyle interventions such as plant-based nutrition,  stress management, physical activity, sleep management, relationship  skills and substance abuse mitigation would transform our healthcare  system.

Lifestyle Medicine is uniquely suited to inter-professional education where students from two or more health care professions learn together  during all or part of their professional training with the objective of  cultivating collaborative practice for providing patient-centered care.

Diabetes Prevention Program helps participants achieve moderate weight loss by eating well and being active.

By the end of the first six months, the goal is for participants to

  •  Lose at least 5 to 7 percent of their starting weight
  • Get at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week, at a moderate pace or more
  • By the end of the second six

  • By the end of the second six months, the goal is for participants to:
  • Keep off the weight they have lost
  • Keep working toward their goal weight, if they have not reach it
  • Lose more weight if they wish
  • Keep getting at least 150 minutes of activity each week

Scheduling

Once a week for four months

Every other week for two months 

Once a month for six months
